Gothic fiction was a part of the Romantic movement which was concerned with strong emotions of passionate love or intense hate. There was usually an atmosphere of apprehension and suspense as well as a location involving a medieval castle or ancient ruins. Gothic fiction often featured subjects such as the supernatural, family curses, mystery, madness, death and decay.
